Brussels warns Bulgaria on corruption

Bulgaria will receive a stern warning on Wednesday from the European Union that its failure to crack down on corruption and organised crime threatens to bring suspension of financial aid and damage its chances of freer travel for its citizens within the bloc.

EU foreign ministers are expected to endorse a critical report from the European Commission that highlights Bulgaria’s lack of progress on judicial reforms – a condition of its entry into the EU in 2007.
