Gordon Brown is “holding Britain back” by his economic profligacy and his resistance to public service reform, the shadow chancellor George Osborne said on Monday.
Replying in the Commons to the pre-Budget report, Mr Osborne cast the chancellor as past his sell-by date: the anti-hero of a “tragic story” about the consequences of eight years of flawed tax-and-spend policies.
