IP TV poses threat to cable groups

Television delivered over the internet could start to pose a broad challenge later this year to the established US cable TV companies and Rupert Murdoch's DirecTV, following broader adoption of the technology.

Verizon, one of the country's two dominant local telecommunications companies, said late on Friday that it would start to sell TV service based on the Microsoft technology before the end of 2005.
