FT series: On the borderline

All along the 2,000-mile frontier separating Mexico from the United States there are signs that a common border culture integrating northern Mexico with the southern US is breaking apart. But while the 335 miles of barriers constructed along the border since 2006 bear witness to a growing separation, migration patterns, business integration and drug-related violence all demonstrate that the ties binding the countries remain powerful.
