Treasury’s food for thought has bitter taste

Takeaway pizzas and large quantities of fresh fruit were on order at the Treasury over the weekend.

These convenience foods helped fuel Nick Macpherson, the top Treasury official, and Tom Scholar, Gordon Brown’s former chief of staff and now head of financial services at the Treasury, as they parleyed and concluded that a purely private sector solution to Bradford & Bingley could not succeed.
