Stock rally signals possible turn

After a torrid start to the year, equities recovered sharply this week, delivering the kind of bounce that could easily mark a bottom in stocks - or simply represent yet another bear market rally that fades in time.

Bear market rallies are often short and explosive in nature as they occur in the wake of excessive selling. This month, the S&P 500 index closed at its lowest level since September 1996, at 676.523 points.
