Celebrity privacy ruling could lead to new curbs on media

Media organisations and newspapers could face new restrictions in the wake of a little-noticed High Court ruling that appears to extend privacy protections for celebrities and public figures, lawyers said yesterday.

The 40-page decision by one of the High Court's senior libel judges comes in the first significant privacy case to hit the English courts since Monaco's Princess Caroline won a landmark victory in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg last year.
