United Airlines, the bankrupt carrier, on Tuesday made its first progress in efforts to achieve a second round of labour cost cuts when it said it had reached a tentative agreement with its pilots union to save a further $191m a year.
Jean Medina, a company spokeswoman, said: "We are pleased we have a tentative agreement with the Airline Pilots Association on the cost savings the company needs to secure the exit financing necessary to restructure successfully."
