Vikram Pandit turned 52 on Wednesday, giving him a rare reason for celebration after a torrid 12 months.

Since taking over as chief executive of Citigroup just before his 51st birthday, Mr Pandit has struggled to revive a financial giant that has lurched from crisis to crisis.
