Sarkozy in €1.6bn farmers rescue package

President Nicolas Sarkozy unveiled a €1.65bn rescue package on Tuesday to help French farmers cope with lower commodity prices and shore up his support among rural voters.

Mr Sarkozy also attacked the European Commission for dragging its feet on proposals to help dairy farmers suffering from a recent drop in milk prices.
