Ucits III shake-up has lasting impact

In an increasingly complex investment landscape, investors could, until recently at least, be sure of one thing: there was a world of difference between traditional asset managers and the convoluted new offerings of hedge funds.

Old-fashioned equity and bond managers bought long-only portfolios of their chosen assets, usually on an ungeared basis, while no self-respecting hedge fund manager would be seen dead offering such a basic investment approach.
