UK paves way for stem cell research

MPs on Monday night paved the way for scientific research on stem cells derived from human-animal hybrid embryos in the first round of votes on a bill to reform embryology laws.

Two cross-party proposals to place restrictions on the medical research were rejected in a free vote in the Commons, with the amendment to ban hybrid embryos research failing by 336 to 176 votes.
