Erdogan hits out at efforts to derail Turkey's EU entry

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey's prime minister, lashed out yesterday at western European politicians for seeking votes in this month's European parliamentary elections by ruling out Turkish entry to the European Union.

"Some narrow-minded politicians have used Turkey as election material, and we believe this to be very wrong and very populist," Mr Erdogan told reporters in Brussels.
