Straw takes no chances on Asian vote

Jack Straw, the foreign secretary, has had one of the toughest general election campaigns since he succeeded Barbara Castle, a great pillar of the left, in 1979.

A chief proponent of the Iraq war, his unenviable task has been to woo Blackburn's 27,000-strong antiwar Muslim community in defence of his 9,249 majority.
