Bush’s ‘uniter’ claim put to the test

Six years ago George W. Bush won the controversial 2000 presidential election on the promise that he would run the White House as a “uniter not a divider” and that he would pursue a “humbler” foreign policy for America.

Having campaigned on his bipartisan record as governor of Texas over the previous six years, Mr Bush abruptly changed course after moving into the Oval Office in January 2001.
