Bush is spectator as policy unravels

When George W. Bush visited Georgia in 2005, he described the country as “a beacon of liberty for this region and the world”.

“As you build a free and democratic Georgia, the American people will stand with you,” the US president told a crowd of 15,000 in ­Tbilisi’s Freedom Square.
