Affordable homes scheme 'poorly targeted'

A billion pound government scheme to help people buy affordable homes is poorly targeted, badly controlled and may be pushing up property prices, a Commons inquiry reported.

Ministers have earmarked £960m for the period 2006-08 to help tens of thousands of public sector workers and low income families to take part-ownership of their property under subsidised shared equity and equity loan deals.
