Tom Perrotta, 46, was born in New Jersey. He studied English at Yale and Syracuse. His first book, Bad Haircut: Stories of the Seventies, was published in 1994. His novels include The Wishbones (1997) and Joe College (2000); Election (1999) was adapted for the big screen in the same year and Little Children (2004) also became a film, in 2006. Perrotta lives near Boston, US, with his wife and two children. His latest novel, The Abstinence Teacher, is out now.
