Caterpillar to cut 20,000 jobs as orders fall

Caterpillar, the world’s biggest maker of construction equipment and heavy-duty engines, on Monday warned of a “seismic adjustment” in revenues as it moved to cut 11 per cent of its workforce amid the economic downturn.

The severity of the manufacturer’s actions demonstrates how industrial production and infrastructure projects globally have slowed in recent months.
