Drug ruling prompts calls to cut prices

Pressure on pharmaceutical companies to lower the price of life-extending cancer drugs was ramped up yesterday after Nice, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, rejected four drugs that treat advanced kidney cancer.

In draft guidance - which is subject to consultation and then to appeal if the decision stands - Nice accepted that the treatments were clinically effective.
