Nat City falls to loss of $1.76bn

National City Corp became the latest US regional bank to disclose growing pain from the credit crisis as second quarter earnings at the Cleveland-based bank plunged to a loss of $1.76bn.

Nat City, as the bank is widely known, said it had charge-offs of $740m, mainly in liquidating bad-loan portfolios, and $1.6bn in provisions for future loan losses.
