Robert Tchenguiz, the British-based property entrepreneur, was suffering heavy losses on his investments in some of Britain's biggest companies yesterday as the fall-out from the Icelandic banking crisis took its toll on corporate Britain.

Mr Tchenguiz was facing losses running into hundreds of millions of pounds last night amid the financial crisis at Kaupthing's UK investment bank, his financial backer.
