Basel round-up: Time for tried and tested risk-proof classics

A look at the watches on offer at Baselworld, confirms that, in times of uncertainty, tried and tested classics are the way to go. For the moment, adventurous horology and way-out propositions are on hold as creative effort is harnessed on improving and honing risk-proof classics. Think TAG Heuer’s Monaco, Breitling’s Navitimer, Omega’s Moon Watch, Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms and Zenith’s El Primero chronographs, all of which are survivors and now emerge in ever so slightly tweaked and improved versions

There are few brand new designs and those such as Marc Newson’s Solaris are self-confident and powerful.
