Lafarge falls victim to construction slump

First-half net profit at Lafarge dropped by over 50 per cent compared to the same period in 2008, as the crisis in the global construction industry took a heavy toll on the world’s largest cement-maker.

The Paris-based company lowered its forecast for cement industry sales in 2009, warning that government stimulus plans would not have a significant impact until 2010.
