Wholesale gas prices lift profits for suppliers

Gas suppliers are making bigger profit margins than at any time in the past decade because of a plunge in wholesale prices that has not been matched by a fall in household bills, a leading consultancy has ­calculated.

The Energy Contract Company suggested gas sales could be “exceptionally” profitable, depending on when suppliers had bought the gas they were selling.
