Tories vow overhaul of benefits

The Conservatives on Tuesday vowed to “slay a piece of Treasury dogma” and allow the welfare-to-work industry to flourish by overhauling how the government funds the benefits system.

A longstanding accounting convention would be scrapped under the proposals to permit savings made from benefits claimants finding jobs to be ploughed back into return-to-work programmes.
