Canadian government plans end of net debt

Canada’s Conservative government has outlined a plan to eliminate the net federal debt within the next 15 years, steadily cut corporate and personal taxes, and expand private-sector involvement in infrastructure financing.

Delivering an economic and fiscal update to parliament, the finance minister Jim Flaherty said yesterday that “it’s time to mobilize Canadians to make a national commitment to pay off Canada’s national mortgage”.
