EMI chief to play soothing music for artists' ears

Guy Hands will try to head off a revolt by EMI's artists and their managers next week by telling them that the best of them stand to make more money under his group's plan for the music company.

Mr Hands, whose Terra Firma private equity group paid £4bn for EMI in August, yesterday faced the threat that some of its biggest-selling artists could hold back albums amid the uncertainty over its future.
