UK foreign aid to focus on ‘fragile states’

The government is to devote more of its foreign aid budget to improving security in “fragile states”, in a strategic shift better to align its political and development efforts in war-torn regions.

Douglas Alexander, international development secretary, will target about £1bn ($1.6bn) a year at countries emerging from conflict, supporting projects on policing, justice and job creation for former soldiers.
