Carl Icahn on Friday called for a sale of BEA Systems, triggering a fresh round of speculation about the chances of an acquisition of one of the biggest independent makers of the software used in large corporate IT systems.
The corporate raider reported in a regulatory filing that he had raised his stake in the company to 8.53 per cent, and said he may ask the company to hold a shareholder meeting and propose his own directors.
