Labour considers offering ‘job guarantee’

Labour is considering putting a “job guarantee” for anyone unemployed for 18 months at the heart of its election manifesto, as ministers seek ways to offer hope to victims of the recession.

The pledge would radically expand a mass job creation scheme for 250,000 young people announced in the Budget, taking up to 350,000 more people a year off the dole to do state-funded training or community work.
