Regulator warns industry over PPI

The Financial Services Authority, the UK regulator, has taken the unusual step of suggesting to the insurance industry that it stop selling single-premium payment protection (PPI) after finding little improvement in sales practices.

The FSA made the call on Tuesday as said it would now “escalate” action against firms that had persistently broken rules governing the sale of PPI, which covers repayments in the event of illness or unemployment.
