Brussels to unveil Uzbek sanctions

The European Union is to announce sanctions against Uzbekistan on Monday almost five months after hundreds of civilian demonstrators were killed in the city of Andijan.

The sanctions, which will be formally agreed at a foreign ministers' meeting, will primarily take the form of an arms embargo and visa restrictions on “those individuals directly responsible for the indiscriminate use of force in Andijan”.
