Lamy seeks interim WTO trade deal

Pascal Lamy, new head of the World Trade Organisation, insisted on Wednesday that his goal remained an ambitious interim trade deal at the WTO ministerial meeting in Hong Kong in three months’ time that would allow completion of the Doha trade talks in 2006.

“The basic objective is to reach by Hong Kong a result that takes us two-thirds of the way to concluding the round in 2006,” he said.
