The founder of India’s first low-cost carrier, Air Deccan, does not mince words when he talks about the government’s attempts to reform and modernise an aviation industry that has not met its potential.
“I don’t think the enormity of the lack of infrastructure has hit them. The situation can even be termed a national emergency,” says G.R. Gopinath, managing director. “What we require is greater urgency, implementation and speed.”
