Texas residents flee path of hurricane Ike

Residents were ordered out of districts to the east of Houston yesterday as hurricane Ike rushed towards the coast of Texas and forecasters warned that the fourth most populated city in the US could be hit by the storm.

Orange and Jefferson counties, which abut the Texas-Louisiana border, issued mandatory evacuation orders, with Orange county warning of storm surge of up to five metres.
