Europe to press US on reforms

European leaders will use this weekend’s G20 summit to urge the US to back reforms of the world’s financial system, amid claims that Americans should help clear up a mess they created.

Nicolas Sarkozy, French president, wants the meeting in Washington to agree “ambitious, operational decisions”, with a view to reviewing them at a second summit within 100 days – after Barack Obama’s inauguration as president on January 20.
