China Mobile, the world's largest wireless operator by subscribers, is planning to extend its footprint beyond the mainland into Hong Kong and other overseas markets, according to its locally listed subsidiary.

Wang Jianzhou, China Mobile (HK)'s chairman, said: "Our parent company is exploring opportunities to expand" into Hong Kong. However, it is not in talks with any mobile operators in the territory.
