No rest for Ma while Taiwan struggles

Chinese new year is the biggest festival on Taiwan’s calendar, but Ma Ying-jeou, the island’s indefatigable president, is not taking time off.

Though most islanders are enjoying a three-day public holiday, Mr Ma has kept up a busy schedule of roughly 10 appearances a day, mostly at temples and military bases. He has not had time off since taking office in May beyond the occasional day without scheduled events.
