Harmony battles with Gold Fields over alternative plan

Harmony, South Africa's biggest domestic gold producer, might complain to stock exchange regulators over a surprise announcement by Gold Fields that it is considering alternatives to a merger with Canada's Iamgold.

Harmony, which has made a hostile takeover bid for Gold Fields, the world's fourth biggest producer, also plans to publish material intended to embarrass the target company's management before the first stage of its offer to shareholders closes on November 26.
