Pay-off to Valeo boss prompts backlash

The backlash against executive pay-outs at troubled companies spread across Europe on Tuesday as a storm broke in France over a €3.2m pay-off for the departing chief executive of Valeo, the loss-making car equipment supplier.

Nicolas Sarkozy, French president, attacked so-called golden parachute payments to executives who quit struggling companies, calling them “not responsible”.
