Sanyo sell-off startles traders

Sanyo Electric’s shares plunged 20 per cent on Thursday after Panasonic started its tender offer for the company – in spite of the price having been public for nearly a year.

Shares tumbled as much as 27 per cent, before closing down 20.4 per cent at Y172, their biggest daily decline in two-and-a-half years.
