Mining groups lead Footsie's biggest fall in four years

The FTSE 100 suffered its biggest one-day slump since the bull market began more than four years ago as the turbulence in financial markets intensified.

Taking its cue from Wall Street, the Footsie fell below 6,000 points for the first time since October and kept on dropping as every stock in the blue-chip index ended in negative territory.
