UK unemployment soars to 1.92m

Business leaders and economists on Wednesday warned the “darkest days for jobs” were still to come after unemployment soared to almost 2m in the closing months of last year – the most since Labour came to power in 1997.

Richard Lambert, director-general of the CBI employers’ federation, said: “These numbers are as bad as we expected and are sadly going to get worse.”
