Santa’s grotto is the unlikely setting for the latest bout in the bitter financial struggle between shops and their landlords.

In a ruling that will affect retailers throughout the country, the High Court has said that shops in Manchester’s Trafford shopping centre should have to pay the full cost of the centre’s grotto and Christmas decorations.
