Brazil: Laggard turns into leader

In the past 13 years, Brazil’s steel industry has transformed itself from one of the world’s most antiquated into a leader in global production and a model of efficiency.

Given global demand and the economic recovery in Brazil, 2006 is likely to be another year of record sales and strong profits. In the current climate of global consolidation, Brazilian steel companies are expected to continue to expand and grow through acquisitions abroad.
