Horseracing forced to rein itself in

Horseracing is braced for a tough time as the global recession hits an industry that has been tearing along for most of the decade.

In this period, prize money, ownership and sales prices have all swelled, despite obstacles such as the rise of offshore and internet betting, which have cut into the gambling taxes that largely fund the sport.
