Brown orders probe into pensions letter leak

Gordon Brown yesterday ordered an inquiry into how the Financial Times obtained a copy of a controversial letter on pensions reform that he sent to Lord Turner, the chairman of the Pensions Commission.

At the end of a week in which he has been accused of trying pre-emptively to scupper Lord Turner's forthcoming report, the chancellor asked the Treasury's chief civil servant, Nicholas Macpherson, to co-ordinate an inquiry across Whitehall.
