Microsoft’s rivals circle but Yahoo lacks options

With one of the web’s biggest audiences and more than 10 per cent of all online advertising coursing through its networks, Yahoo never looked like it would fall to Microsoft without a fight from some of the world’s biggest media and internet companies.

With the end-game in sight for Jerry Jang, Yahoo chief executive, Microsoft’s rivals are now ready to show their hands.
