US calls for patience on Afghanistan

The Obama administration said on Friday that it needed more time for its Afghanistan strategy to succeed, amid increasing discontent in Congress about any troop increases.

After several top legislators expressed their misgivings, Susan Rice, US ambassador to the United Nations, called for greater public and congressional patience with the approach of the administration.
